Soon, the walking bore result and there, sitting on a big rock, was Vikas. He was looking a bit impatient.

“You are late! We should make our preparation…if Ramesh can’t hold them long enough, they will be here any moment now and if they get here without us prepared for them, it will be a waste of time and effort,” Vikas said, a bit irritated.

I felt that Rahul wanted them to come now, so that they would be caught unprepared and the whole adventure would come to an end. But Murphy was not that wrong after all; when something can go wrong it usually does and , for Rahul, the jeep with the money did not come.

“I have chosen this spot because if we stand near that tree we can see the road as it bends around the hill… and that gives us a fifteen minute window to be ready for them. To stop them, I think we should roll that boulder on to the road,” Vikas said pointing at a big rock lying on the side of the road.

“OK! now you can tell me how we are going to overpower them, they might be trained for something like this,” Rahul said, still hoping to find a way to get out of this.

This was the moment Vikas had been waiting for as he pulled out the two pistols from his overcoat. Rahul’s face lost all color.

“Wh…what is this?” Rahul stammered.

Vikas laughed. “You didn’t think we could get hold of a crore of rupees without any weapon at all. But think of them as the tusks on an elephant – only for show. We are not killing anyone, but having a gun in our hands can give us the edge we need to force them into submission.”

Then from the inside pocket of his his coat he also brought out a couple of handcuffs and a rope.

“I will hold the guns; you just have to cuff them. Don’t cuff Ramesh first – nor last. We don’t want them to be suspicious about him. Do it with a steady hand. You are a doctor, you cut people up, this will be easy, trust me,” Vikas said reassuringly.

Rahul nodded, but he was hardly any confident than he was a few minutes ago. But there was a change in his manner as if he had decided that if he was going to do it, he better do it in the best possible way.

“We will take the vehicle with us, and while I drive away you will look into the chest and see if there is a way to open that or will we have to take it along with us.”

“OK!”

“Don’t you think it might be a good idea to take Ramesh as a hostage and get him away form here with us.”

“No!!”

…Continued.
