Writing, Among Other Things

Not Another Upgrade!!!

WordPress is a great thing. It is perhaps one of the best things to have happened in the cyberspace. It has enabled many people – like me – who were not very familiar with html and other web site building languages, to set up, run and maintain good looking sites.

Going by the number of upgrades that have been made to WordPress,  the people behind WordPress seem to be working quite hard. Usually, by the time I have  one version of WordPress set up and running, they release a new one. Not being very tech -savy, I ususally stick to one version of WordPress (or any software for that matter), till it becomes absolutely necessary to upgrade.

As of now, I am using WordPress 2.3.1 and even though everytime I log in, my dashboard tells me that my  “WordPress 2.3.1 is out of date,” I still have not felt the need to upgrade. It is pertinent, I think, to mention here that the last time I tried to upgrade WordPress, I did something wrong and was forced to resort to a fresh install.

It appears that WordPress is now almost ready with WordPress 2.5, and from the sneek peek provided by the WordPress team it seems that upgrading to 2.5 will not only be necessary, but will also make using WordPress a better experience. So, I am waiting for the new version of WordPress with great eagerness, and a little anxiety.

What do you feel about WordPress upgrades?

WordPress 2.3.1 is out of date, but not because 2.5 is coming (which is still in release-candidate mode anyways). You haven’t installed 2.3.3, which patches up two levels of security holes.

Patch it up and wait for 2.5 to settle down, is my advice.

I haven’t read much on the improvements other than a new dash, which i don’t care about…

I found wordpress to be a joy to look at, a Beautiful thing to behold, but OMG, oh so over regulated and plagued with problems. Keep us updated on your adventures, I’d be interested to see if 2.5 is the soltuion to our prayers.

I have tried many blog platform in the past and none of them can compete with wordpress. WordPress is the best because there are a whole community behind it to develop widget, theme, etc. Which it will make the life of a blogger more easier. The upgrade is not really a big deal. It takes me less than 1 minutes to upgrade it to the latest update and hours to test the new functions! 😛

I’ve read that 2.5 will make upgrading in the future a matter of click and go. My experience with previous upgrades have been mixed. I have multiple blogs, all on wordpress and hosted at different hosting companies. One upgrade was easy and went very smoothly, the other was a nightmare that had me tearing my hair out because the whole structure of WP changed in the database and although my comments were still IN the database, the new structure didn’t pull them in. I had to figure out what it took to make that happen which took me several days — not something I want to repeat!

Hopefully, moving to 2.5 won’t be so stressful.

I would upgrade if I were you. The version you’re using has some security issues.

It is always recommended to update to the latest version of WordPress.

WordPress 2.5 should be out soon, remember to update your WordPress then yo! 😀

Yeah, it’s never usually a MUST you upgrade to the latest version unless they specifically say they’ve patched a security bug or something. I’m kind of obsessive compulsive when it comes to updating my software/web applications (unless I’m feeling lazy that day).

You do run a clean looking site. Refreshing to see a place not too ‘busy’ with stuff. I wouldn’t worry about all of the upgrades. Isn’t it better to become comfortable where you are, and then take it as it comes? Looks good here. Keep up the good work.
