Rahul had by now crept into the front seat too.

“The notes are not jsut big ones, but there are small ones too,” Rahuls said, “we will need two big bags…at least.”

“The notes being small, and used, is a good thing in many ways…they are harder to trace.” Vikas replied, his mind, it seemed, was still focused on how to hide the money.

“We have two big bags… but where do we take them.  We can’t take them home. Let’s go to a place where there are a lot of people , say a bus stop first.”

“Why ?” Rahul was bewildered.

Vikas smiled sheepishly, and replied, “ I have a phobia of the sniffer police dogs. Whenever I have planned a crime in my mind, I have always been scared of being found out by them.”

Rahul was thoughtful again, “ You know, you could be a great criminal, at least you think of everything.”

Vikas laughed, “ What do you mean I could be a great criminal, I am a great criminal.”

Then Vikas came back and yelled, “If anyone of you still feels like a hero, you can tell me right now, so that I can end your sad and sorry life without further wait. We are here for the money and we will leave with the money, we don’t want to hurt any of you unless you give us a reason to do so.”

Rahul was shocked at what Vikas seemed to have done. It seemed to me that he would faint, but Vikas quickly got near him and whispered in his ears, “I didn’t kill him, don’t worry.”

Then he continued in the loud tone,”Take these handcuffs and cuff each of them. Vikas took the gun from Rahul, who then cuffed and  gagged the captives. Over the gag, Vikas taped their mouths shut. It was clear that Vikas knew what he was doing, and that none of the captured would be able to emit a sound or break free for a long time.

That would mean that he would be asked more questions, and he will have to invent  more lies, and the more lies there are the more weak our story becomes. His role is to make sure that there is no way by which the bank guys can get the news out in time, and that’s all he will do. If they change anything, he can warn us. It is best that he remain our inside man, weak as he is.”

And, then, there was a sound of an approaching vehicle, and Vikas quickly got up.

“Ok! The time is come, help me roll the stone down.” Vikas cried.

Quickly, Vikas and Rahul rolled the huge stone on to the middle of the road, and it was evident that it was a job harder than Vikas had thought… but they accomplished the task just in time.

“Wear this mask, and hide behind the bushes… and under no condition use my name or yours, don’t come out till everyone in the car is out of the car, or better still wait till I have come out and then follow me.”

Soon, the walking bore result and there, sitting on a big rock, was Vikas. He was looking a bit impatient.

“You are late! We should make our preparation…if Ramesh can’t hold them long enough, they will be here any moment now and if they get here without us prepared for them, it will be a waste of time and effort,” Vikas said, a bit irritated.

I felt that Rahul wanted them to come now, so that they would be caught unprepared and the whole adventure would come to an end. But Murphy was not that wrong after all; when something can go wrong it usually does and , for Rahul, the jeep with the money did not come.

“I have chosen this spot because if we stand near that tree we can see the road as it bends around the hill… and that gives us a fifteen minute window to be ready for them. To stop them, I think we should roll that boulder on to the road,” Vikas said pointing at a big rock lying on the side of the road.

Rahul was clearly amazed to see Vikas like that and, I am sure, he also realized the inadequacy of his own disguise.

“Don’t you think we might need a vehicle for this?” Rahul enquired.

“No we don’t, a vehicle can be traced, and its hard to find a vehicle that can’t be trace. If we have to, we will use the vehicle they are coming in.”

“When were you planning to tell us this?”

“As soon as you asked me the question,” Vikas laughed.
