The Bank Robbery X- Getting There

“Yes!” I heard said on the other side and, then something more, which I could not make out.

Then it was Vikas’ turn to say “OK,” and hang up.

He looked grim, and the expression on his face made me wonder – not for the first time – if he was actually new at this or, had he been involved in similar affairs before. But, then, he was an engineer, and what I had gathered from observing him at work, I thought he was good at his job. As often happens, someone who is good at one thing, is good at a few other things as well. The same, it seemed, was true for Vikas. He was good at quite a few things, and maybe that rubbed off on to his skills at crime too. Be it as it may be, till now, I could not detect any chink in the armor. Vikas was smart enough not to bring up the matter of guns before Rahul and Ramesh, for they would have freaked out just at the mention of guns.

But, Vikas had asked for two pistols, and it was clear that he meant for Rahul to have one of the two pistols. All he was waiting for was the right opportunity to hand him one.

The Bank Robbery IX- Final Touches

“No, I am worried about him, I don’t want him in that vehicle, if he does or says anything during the job, it might raise suspicion and then he will be caught, and if he gets caught, we all get caught… I have half a mind to take him out first, but we might need his help. He is a weak point though.”

“I agree. That’s why I asked.”

“And I really don’t know the answer, we will find out in five days, till then let’s follow our plan. I think it is the best we can do. Though I know one thing… Ramesh has his eyes set on the money, and he will do any thing to get his hands on it.”

“That I agree with, and that’s what worries me too, what if he gets too greedy?”

“There are always a lot of things that can go wrong, let’s just focus on the things that can go right for now, and hopefully it ends the way we want it to. Let’s just hope that Murphy’s Law doesn’t apply to us, at least not this time.”

The Bank Robbery – VIII

(This is the eighth part of the series that began here (I posted this before, but lost that post due to an unexpected glitch) . If you like it,  and would want to be updated whenever I post the subsequent parts, you might want to subscribe to the posts via email)

“For one, the darker it gets, the better it is for us… but if it does not get dark, we can at least delay them till  the last bus on this route is gone. One less thing to worry about. As for any surprise traffic we will deal with it, as it comes,” Vikas replied, “But the later it is, the lesser chance of a vehicle coming and surprising us.”

Rahul nodded his head in agreement, and Ramesh, as usual, was impressed by Vikas’ foresightedness.

“After that if possible you have to take out the exchange, or better still do it well before the day, maybe in the morning, in a way that does not say sabotage. Something simple but even if you can’t, it is a big worry, so just do the best you can.”

“Ok!” Ramesh said.

The Bank Robbery- VII

Rahul didn’t say anything, but his face had an expression that  said, “Are we talking about stealing candy from a child or a Bank Robbery?”

“It will be as easy as stealing candy from a child” Vikas said.

Rahul was startled, and he wondered if he had said his thoughts out loud. Vikas was smiling and looking at the both of them. Anyone who could see the three men at that moment would not take long to figure that Vikas was the leader of the group, and the other two were mere players.  And the players were content with being players.

“I am all for it. I think it can be done, I was paying more attention today, and there is no security, we can easily haul in the money and run,” Ramesh began.

“And run where? we are no robbers or criminals,” Vikas said, a little irritated.  “What do you think Rahul?”

“I think your plan is the best, we can take Ramesh’s help to fill in the details and then act. But I noticed that we have only twenty days to figure out everything, otherwise the money will be gone and all will be in vain.”

“Yes…twenty days, but twenty days are more than enough.”

“Ok! here is the final plan then”, Vikas continued, “Rahul and me will leave this place a few days before the actual day… we are away often so it won’t rouse any suspicion. On the day we won’t be able to contact each other, neither will we try…so everything has to be very well planned. On the day, we meet at some place, possibly looking as different from our usual self as we can, just passing by through this area, then we will wait at that blind curve near the village. I chose that point because it’s not in sight and in that area there is no cell phone signal. Ramesh, you get them to leave a little late somehow… that can be easily done, I think… then  you have to get the telephone exchange down. It’s not  something that has not happened before, so they will not be too worried about it. The best way to do it would  be to somehow cut the electric supply of the exchange. They don’t have back up so as soon as the lights go out, the phones go out; If we are lucky the power will be out as it is on that day.
