The most common advice that you can expect from any motivational speaker is this : Do what you are passionate about.
If everyone knows that, it should be easy. Right?
Only it isn’t.
Very few are able to identify what they are passionate about – for the rest, the search for passion is a lifelong exercise. Sometimes, by the time a person knows for sure what he is passionate about, it is too late to do anything about it.
Let’s say you want to start something new. Something you have never done before.
What do you do?
You read a few “how-to” books on the subject, you seek help from friends who are already doing it, and you visit a few websites that deal with the subject at hand. Chances are if you are serious about doing the thing, whatever it may be, you will soon be doing it well enough.
But, what if you want to get better at it?
It is that time of the year again when you have to decide whether you are going to take part in the NaNoWriMo or not.
Every year for the last few years I have decided that I will. Unfortunately, I have not been able to achieve the goal of writing 50,000 words in a month every time. But, I have done that at least once, and that keeps me motivated to attempt NaNoWriMo every year, and I have decided that I am going to try it this year as well.
In fact, I have decided that I am not only going to try, but win the NaNoWriMo this year.
One fine morning you wake up and realise that something is very wrong. Things in your life are in a bad shape, and you wonder how it came to this.
You look back, introspect, and realise that things didn’t become bad overnight. They were slowly getting from bad to worse, but you never noticed until things went out of control. It is only then that you decide to take charge, and improve things.
The reverse is also true.
I recently came across a blog post titled, “The one secret to successful blogging”. Of course, I was hooked and I decided to go ahead and read the entire post.
When I was finished I was more disappointed than anything else. Looking back, I think whenever I have come across any post or article that promises to reveal the “only” secret to anything, I have only faced disappointment.
It would, therefore, be safe to say that there is no one secret for succeeding in anything.
