“Good,” Vikas said.
There was silence as the two friends walked towards their offices, and I followed them.
“Let’s hear your plan!” Rahul said jokingly.
“The plan is simple. The day the transfer of money is to be made, we cause some trouble in the vehicle in which the money is to be transferred, so that by the time they are ready to leave it’s a bit late. And we will let them get the message across to the big bank branch that they are late . Then as soon as they leave we can cause the telephone exchange to go out and thus this area loses all connection with the outside world. Then as we will have already arranged we will stop the vehicle on the road and get away with the money.”
“And all of this will be done by just the two of us?”
“NO! we need a third one.”
“And who will that be?”
“Ramesh.”
“You can’t be serious. He works for the bank.”
“On the contrary, I am very serious. I have seen it in his eyes, when he counts that money, he wants his hands on them… a crore of rupees, split three ways, will be thirty three lakhs each, quite a bit more than what we will be earning in our whole lives if we keep at these jobs of ours, plus if we do it right we will not be losing our jobs.”
“Hmmm… I don’t know…I think it could work, but if it fails…”
“We just run if something even starts to go wrong. They don’t lose their money, so they won’t pursue it, maybe they wont even know that they were in any danger of losing it in the first place.”
“Ok!! I am in, let’s plan it.” Rahul said suddenly.
“Good, I knew you would make the smart choice,” Vikas said.
“That only time will tell.”
So, that evening itself, they called Ramesh over for tea. Ramesh was going on and on about a man who had been annoying them at the bank all day. Vikas and Rahul were pretending to be listening, but had Ramesh been paying attention or, maybe, had he been smart enough, he would have observed that the two had their minds somewhere else.
“…and then he left,” ramesh was finishing.
“How much money did he have in his account?” Vikas asked.
“Why, I just told you, almost nothing and he was acting as if he owned the bank.”
“Oh! sorry… I didn’t get that part, but how much it would take to own your bank,” Vikas asked. Rahul listened attentively now, knowing where this was going.
“Well, as I told you, not much, but this is the harvest month and on the 1st of next month, we should have about a crore.”
“Oh! that’s a lot of money, I wonder if I ever will see even a tenth of that amount,” Vikas said.
“Me either,” Ramesh said.
“You could, it’s not hard for you, you can always think of a way to keep some of the cash for you,” Vikas said.
“ I have, but trust me If I had found a way to do that without a chance of getting caught, I would have been rich by now.”
“So, if you could get your hands on some of the money without getting caught you would do it!”
“ Yes, why not, its no man’s money.”
“Ok! We, I and Rahul, have a plan…”
“No…he has a plan,” interrupted Rahul, “I am just agreeing to what he says.”
“What Plan?” Ramesh asked.
“To get our hands on some of the money in your bank.”
…Contd.
What do you think?
