2014 is here, and, let’s face it, it will be gone just as quickly as 2013 did. You may find it weird to be talking about the end of an year that has hardly begun, but if you have lived long enough you would have realised that dates and months and years are mere numbers, and like all numbers, they deceive us.
That said, I must also say that I like New Year’s day a lot. It is a day that promises a new beginning. No matter how bad things were in the year that went by, the New Year’s day comes bearing the promise of a fresh start. It is true that, if we want, any day can be the beginning of something new and beautiful. If that happens, it is a great thing, but if it doesn’t then there is no time better than the New Year’s day to start something new of our own.
As I have said often on this blog, I am a firm believer in the power of resolutions, and every New Year’s day, I list a set of targets for the coming year. Even though I know that most of the times sticking to these resolutions will be easier said than done, I never let that fact stop me from trying.
With high hopes, here I am, once again, listing my resolutions for 2014:
a) Read 120 books. Last year I had set a target of 100 books to read, and I barely managed to read around 15. I think it was more due to a lack of discipline, than anything else. So, I have decided to challenge myself a bit more this year.
b) Write 1000 words everyday. Last year I had set myself a target of writing 1500 words every day. This year I have decided to cut down my writing target as I feel it is better to focus on quality than quantity, especially when it comes to writing.
c) Post on this blog at an average rate of one blog post per week.
d) Exercise at least three times a week. This is the a resolution that I managed to stick to in 2013, and I think it should not be too hard to continue in 2014.
e) Smile more. It never hurts.
f) Procrastinate less. This one is on my list every year.
I hope I do better with this list than I did in 2013. What are your new year resolutions?
Before I sign off, I would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year.
These are great and very doable. Almost every year I make a list of goals. And almost every year it’s a little hit-or-miss how closely I stick to them. This year, rather than set a check-list of to-dos, I have a theme: Fear Not. So if that means staring down a food I shouldn’t eat: do it. If it means trying a new exercise: get ‘er done (my daughter is teaching me to swim!)and if it means writing that scary article and submitting it, let’s get after it.
