“Ok I think I should go now”. It was Ramesh who said that. Rahul and Vikas were in no hurry, they had a whole night in front of them, and usually they remained together till it was time to sleep.
“Ok!” both Rahul and Vikas said in unison.
“He is a nice guy, a bit empty in the head, but not bad,” Vikas said as Ramesh left.
“Yes that’s right, but any company is good company in a place like this.’
“I could not agree more.”
“What do you think of the bank?” Vikas said, all of a sudden.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, a crore of rupees is not much but if we get a chance to get our hands on that money, and in a way that no one will think it was us, it won’t be bad at all.”
Rahul laughed. He did not think that Vikas was being serious.
“I am serious” Vikas said, “Maybe you and me being here at the same time is destiny, and our one chance to haul in some cash.”
“Are you really serious?” Rahul asked, still not believing Vikas.
“I am… I really am. With a little planning there is nothing that could go wrong, this place is ideal for such a thing, even if someone was to find out about the crime, it will be hours before they can get an alert out.”
“But even if it takes hours, we still will be caught somewhere because once the word is out they will have barricades everywhere, and in two hours we won’t have gone far.”
“Exactly! It will take at least two hours to get any news out of here. But, if we catch them while the money is being transferred on the way , it will get them forever to get to any place from where they can pass news out, and in that time we can be anywhere.”
“You are really serious,” Rahul said, “But I see a very bright future for me as a doctor and I can’t be caught up in something like this.”
“Ok! I think you are right, I was just carried away in the moment.” Vikas said.
Rahul smiled and said nothing. But, I saw in his eyes, that Vikas was not going to let go off this topic easily. There was more to come and I decided to be there to see it to the end.
Vikas and Rahul talked about other things, had dinner, and headed for bed. There was no sleep for me, so I just wandered around. There was nothing that could bore me now. Even when I was alive I was fascinated by the little things but, back then, there were so many distractions, and I could never focus on anything. Now with all the time in the word, I could spend time thinking about anything.
A couple of days later Vikas, Rahul and Ramesh were assembled in the bank. Vikas had to make a bank draft to send money to the company he was working for. Once outside the bank, he said to Rahul “ Today I noticed again, how easy it would be to loot this bank.”
“Yes, and I am not doing that, ever,” Rahul said with a smile.
“Neither am I, but that should not stop us from talking about it, should it?” Vikas replied with feigned anger.
Rahul laughed in return and said, “No, it should not”
