That would mean that he would be asked more questions, and he will have to invent more lies, and the more lies there are the more weak our story becomes. His role is to make sure that there is no way by which the bank guys can get the news out in time, and that’s all he will do. If they change anything, he can warn us. It is best that he remain our inside man, weak as he is.”
And, then, there was a sound of an approaching vehicle, and Vikas quickly got up.
“Ok! The time is come, help me roll the stone down.” Vikas cried.
Quickly, Vikas and Rahul rolled the huge stone on to the middle of the road, and it was evident that it was a job harder than Vikas had thought… but they accomplished the task just in time.
“Wear this mask, and hide behind the bushes… and under no condition use my name or yours, don’t come out till everyone in the car is out of the car, or better still wait till I have come out and then follow me.”
In the twinkle of an eye Vikas and Rahul were hidden in the bushes. In due time, the vehicle that they were waiting for was visible, and it screeched to a halt as the driver saw the rock in the middle of the road.
The driver let out a loud, obscene curse as he stepped out of the vehicle.
“What’s the matter?” someone called from the back of the jeep.
“There is a big boulder in the middle of the road, sir,” the driver replied, “and I can’t get it out of the road alone.”
The doors of the jeep opened, and three men came out of the jeep. Ramesh was the last to get out of the jeep.
“What is this?” Ramesh asked loudly.
At that very instant out came Vikas, pointing a gun straight at the three men.
“Each of you quietly lie down… anyone tries to act smart, and I shoot him right here and now,” Vikas said in an authoritative and menacing voice.
There was a utter look of disbelief on the faces of the three men. The men it was obvious were not expecting anything like this because they had not brought out their guns with them. So, quietly the three men had quietly lain on the ground.
But where was the driver?
Vikas had made the mistake of overlooking the driver, who, by now, had crept behind him and jumped on him. There was a struggle between the driver and Vikas, and it seemed that the driver was the stronger of the two men and he was overpowering Vikas. It was good that the three men were lying down because it took them some time to realize what was happening, and they did not get up instantly.
And this time was well used as Rahul had come out of the bushes too, and with all his might he hit the driver on the head with the butt of his pistol. That dazed the driver, and Vikas got a chance to recover himself, and get a grip on the gun, and control the situation. Rahul obviously was totally nervous now, but Vikas’ composure even after the incident was amazing.
He got up and kicked the driver hard in the stomach. The driver lay on the ground writhing in pain. Vikas dragged the driver into the bushes, and a bullet shot was heard.
And then the driver’s moans could not be heard anymore.
…Continued.
