The Bank Robbery XVI – The Escape

This is the sixteenth part of the series that began here . If you like it, and would want to be updated whenever I post the subsequent parts, you might want to subscribe to the posts via email . We are nearing the end of this story and it will be finished in the next two or three posts in this very post. Let me know what you think of through your comments.)

Rahul had no other option but to follow him and he did. For a while the road got worse and the vegetation became denser. Rahul was having a really hard time walking with the weight of the bag on his shoulders and avoiding tripping on the roots of the trees that were exposed, here and there. Vikas although seemed to have no problem in making his way among the dense vegetation. But after about fifteen minutes and another right turn, the road began to slope down and got easier to walk on. After about another twenty minute’s brisk walk, the main highway became visible again and the two men were soon on it.

“ So, will we get a bus from here… and where are we?” Rahul asked.

Vikas was still smiling and kept walking. Even I was intrigued now, and followed them with great curisoity. On the highway , Vikas got near the a car that had been covered with a tarpaulin sheet. Judging by the dust on the cover, it seemed that the car had been parked there since the last few weeks. Vikas uncovered it, and took out the keys to the car from his pocket, and with a smile he said, “ Here is our ride home.”

Rahul’s face could not hide hisamazement. “How and when did you do this?” he asked.

A Global English

Thanks to the Internet, English has become one of the most written, if not spoken, language in the world. And from the way things are going it can be safely assumed that the use of English is only going to increase in the years to come.

A few years ago, there were only two major varieties of English – the British  and the  American. Given the fact that most of the world has been a British colony at some point of time or another, it is not surprising that countries like India, south Africa etc. were predominantly using British English, and occasionally spicing it up with bits and pieces of the native language.

Thus, in addition to the two major varieties of English, a few other variants began to develop. But, then came computers, and the Internet, and things changed altogether.

Finding a niche…

As I said in one of my previous posts, if someone has more than one blog it is important for them to identify a niche for each of the blogs. Otherwise it is easy to become confused as to what one is going to post on the different blogs.

Once confusion sets in, many other problems follow.

Identifying a niche is also helpful as it gives you a rough outline around which you can  develop your post. There are certain things that you write about, and then there are others that you don’t. Once you have that defined, coming up with the posts becomes a little less difficult.

A niche is good for the readers too because they know what to expect when they come to your blog. If it is something that is of interest to them, they would like to subscribe to your blog or bookmark it. If not, they will move on.

This blog has been in existence for almost an year now, but till now I have not been able to decide a niche for it, but I think that is a thing of the past. Because, now, I have decided that it will be possible to continue this blog only if a niche is defined for it. And I have defined it…

What it is, is something that you will have to figure out for yourself in the days to come.  I am sure it will not be hard to figure it out!

Some changes on the Blog

Change is the law of nature. This statement is especially true for the blogosphere, where new ideas and concepts come up every day. Some stay and flourish, while others fizzle out and are soon forgotten.

Bloggers have to keep in touch with the latest trends and make changes on their blogs accordingly. So, in line with what has happened in the blogosphere lately, I have made a few changes to my blog too.

  • The Blogrush widget, that had been occupying the top spot in the side bar, has been moved down the order. I thought about taking it off the blog, but on second thoughts I let it stay as I have come across some good blogs through the widget. But Blogrush has been a disappointment considering the momentum it had gained on account of it’s explosive opening.
  • Entrecard, the new kid on the block, has been given the top spot on the side bar. The reason for that is that the entrecard widget has been sending in consistent traffic, despite the fact that I have not made any real effort to get traffic from there. I think I am going to do that now, and getting the entrecard widget on top is the first step in that direction.
  • I had been using a couple of referral programs for the last few months, but they have not produced any results. So, off they have come too.
  • Google Adsense is back on the blog. After experimenting with a couple of ways to make money – without affecting the blog – I have come to feel that Google Adsense is still one of the best ways to do it. So, the google ads are back again, until I can find a better alternative.

That is about it…at least for now.

Win Rs. 1000 or 20 USDs!

As some of you might know, for the last few months I have been associated with a new online magazine called The MAG – A Magazine for all generations.

The magazine is still in it’s infancy and it will be a while before it reaches adulthood. Though the magazine is slightly India-centric,  yet there is an attempt to have some articles that are universal in their appeal. So, if you are interested in writing any such articles for The MAG, you are welcome to send in your contributions to editor@themag.in . Right now, we are not paying but who knows what the future holds.

That said, let us come to the point of this post. In order to give a little publicity to The MAG, a contest has been set up. The details of the contest can be found here .

In short, all you have to do is subscribe to The MAG via email, and if you are among the first fifty subscribers you are eligble to win 20 USDS or 1000 INRs. As soon as we hit fifty, we will pick a lucky winner.

And while you are on the MAG, it will be highly appreciated if you tell us what you think of it.

To end, a question for bloggers : Do you think there is any future for online magazines?
